The Shirley Temple Air Plant – Nature's Living Sculpture
The Queen of Air Plants
Few air plants are as instantly recognisable as Tillandsia streptophylla. Famous for its beautifully curling leaves that resemble flowing ribbons, this remarkable species is often affectionately called the "Shirley Temple Air Plant" because of its naturally curly appearance.
Its sculptural form makes it one of the world's most desirable collector air plants and a favourite among interior designers. Whether displayed on driftwood, suspended in a hanging display or showcased as a standalone specimen, Tillandsia streptophylla is guaranteed to become the focal point of any space.
As the plant matures, its elegant silver-green foliage develops increasingly dramatic curls, creating a living sculpture unlike any other.

About the Included Tillandsia streptophylla
Native to Mexico, Central America and parts of the Caribbean, Tillandsia streptophylla naturally grows high on tree branches where it enjoys bright light, warm temperatures and excellent air circulation.
Its broad, silvery leaves are covered with specialised trichomes that absorb moisture directly from the air.
One of the most fascinating characteristics of this species is its ability to curl and uncurl depending on moisture levels. During dry conditions, the leaves curl tightly to conserve water, while after watering they gradually relax and open again.
This ever-changing appearance makes Tillandsia streptophylla one of the most dynamic and interactive air plants available.
When mature under suitable conditions, it produces a striking pink flower spike with attractive violet flowers.

Caring for Your Tillandsia streptophylla
Light
Provide early morning sunlight followed by bright indirect light.
Watering
For Nairobi, Thika, Kiambu, Athi River, Nakuru and Eldoret, mist or spray the plant daily.
For Mombasa, Diani, Kilifi, Watamu and Malindi, watering every other day is generally sufficient because of the naturally higher humidity.
Always allow the plant to dry completely before nightfall.
Fertiliser
Feed every two weeks with NHance Seaweed Fertiliser to encourage vigorous growth and flowering.
Leaf Care
Clean the leaves monthly using diluted Achook Neem Oil to keep the foliage healthy and free from pests.
Why Tillandsia streptophylla is Special
Unlike many plants that maintain a constant appearance, Tillandsia streptophylla responds to its environment.
Its leaves naturally curl tighter during dry weather and gradually relax after watering, giving the plant a constantly changing sculptural appearance.
This natural adaptation is one of the reasons it has become one of the world's most photographed and admired Tillandsia species.
Every plant develops its own unique personality, making no two specimens exactly alike.
What's Included
