Tillandsia ionantha Guide Coming Soon
A compact, colourful air plant that blushes vivid red before flowering. A collector favourite and perfect for small displays. Guide coming soon.
Why Air Plants Are Different
Air plants — or Tillandsias — are epiphytes that grow naturally without soil. In the wild they attach themselves to tree branches, rocks and forest edges, absorbing water and nutrients directly through microscopic structures on their leaves called trichomes. Their roots exist only to anchor the plant.
At TropicalOrchids254, this understanding shapes everything we do. We grow our Tillandsias on natural driftwood, in colourful spiral wire hangers and on handcrafted driftwood desktop holders — allowing each plant to develop exactly as it would in nature, creating a unique piece of Living Art.
Growing Air Plants in Kenya
Humidity, temperature and airflow differ greatly across Kenya. Our air plant guides include region-specific watering advice for Nairobi, Thika, Athi River, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nanyuki, Limuru, Kiambu, Mombasa, Diani, Kilifi, Malindi, Watamu and Vipingo — because the same Tillandsia may need slightly different care depending on where it is grown.
